Only My Husband

by lucy on May 17, 2013

Chicago 2012 001We will be super duper busy this weekend.  I think I mentioned my son is graduating from Law School this weekend in Chicago LOL. I am currently IN CHICAGO.  My husband just asked, “Hey, we don’t really have anything planned for tomorrow, right?”  My son answered, “No plans set Dad, why?”  My husband went on to ask eagerly, “Are the cubs in town because I was thinking?”

Chicago 2012 007I cut in right away and said, “NO, we are not going to a game. My sister wants to enjoy the city and a game takes too much time.”

I will be running all over the city of Chicago and crying as my oldest graduates. But no baseball!

Chicago 2012 005What will you be doing all weekend?  Let me know, have a wonderful time and we will all catch up on Tuesday when I am sunning at the pool in Sedona :)

This weekend we plan to celebrate, enjoy the beautiful city, and just have a ton of fun.

My parents will be missed BUT my sister can’t wait to watch and celebrate her Godson’s graduation from law school too.

Of course, I promised to take a ton of photos for my parents, like that was a hard promise.

You know you will be seeing them too :)

What are you celebrating this upcoming summer season?

HodgePodge Wednesday

by lucy on May 15, 2013

1. May is National Blood Pressure Month…what sends yours soaring, either literally or figuratively? What calms you down? When did you last have your bp checked?

My blood pressure runs low, very low but nothing to worry about.  Once I was told, “Gee, if I didn’t see you sitting here, talking and looking fine I would think you were dead your pressure is so low.” And, the nurse walked out the door.  Of course, that concerned me.  I asked the doctor and he informed me that sometimes they go by a person’s ‘normal’.  He explained I always am low and if I dip a little lower they don’t get alarmed. Only if I start to complain of other symptoms which I wasn’t but c’mon, what a thing to say.

2. You just found $1-what do you spend it on? How about 10$ 100?

I wouldn’t spend the dollar, it would go in my wallet or the little yellow bucket on our dresser.  Ten dollars?  It would be just running out and grabbing something like a quick lunch.  A hundred dollars?  Most likely on something needed at the moment.  A new pair of shoes, or some tops, shorts, whatever is on the ‘need’ list.  I wouldn’t look at it as a splurge, I would still get something I was planning to get.

3. Mandatory labeling of genetically engineered (GE) food has been proposed, but not enacted in the US. How much attention do you give food labels before you buy? Are you in favor of labeling if it means an increase in food prices? Is this an issue you’ve been following and feel strongly about, or is this the first you’ve heard of the controversy?

I had no idea about the labels.  I do pay attention to labels. I can’t say I FEEL STRONGLY but if they put them on I will read them and take notice. I had no clue there was a controversy.  What is Genetically Engineered foods?  I tend to eat veggies, fruits, meats, dairy and eggs, are those genetically engineered? Gosh, now I am getting way confused and need to do some research or maybe some of my commenters can enlighten me?

4. May 15th marks the birthdate of Frank Baum, author of The Wizard of Oz. At this point in time, are you more in need of brains, courage, heart, or a trip back home? Explain.

I love the Wizard of Oz.  And, seeing how I am totally at a loss about the labeling of our food in the United States, I think I am going with the NEED FOR  BRAINS.

5. “There’s no place like home” is an oft repeated line from Baum’s book. When was the last time you felt the truth of that statement?

I haven’t experienced that feeling in a long while.  We went on a 17 day vacation years ago, I think maybe 2002? And, it was a little too long.  Home was looking darn good.  In addition, when I was 16,(which we all know was many, many,MANY moons ago) I went to SPAIN, I missed the United States a ton by the end of the trip.  It was all the  little things I missed about HOME. For example our soft toilet paper, our pizza and even how our showers were setup. When you are sixteen you like all the little comforts and are not use to adapting. Spain was beautiful but I was ready to get back to HOME.

6.  Steak…yes please or no thank you? What cut do you prefer and how do you like yours cooked? Sauce or no sauce? Besides your own kitchen, where’s a place you like to go to get a great steak?

Alright, DON’T SHOOT ME, we have steak once a week.  Medium Rare to Medium, I KNOW, NO YELLING, PLEASE LOL. No Sauce, that ruins a good steak.  We have several favorite places we go for super good steaks.  Hyde Park and Mitchell Cameron Restaurants in our little hometown. Oh,boy we have had some awesome steaks all over the United States in many different cities. What can I say, we are STEAK PEOPLE.  But we know, we must eat chicken, Pork (the other white meat) and fish too. I assure you WE KNOW to be careful with the red meat.

7. When was the last time you were in a genuine hurry?

I rushed like crazy when I had to fly home from Arizona to Ohio due to my mother getting very ill.  I was scared and I was frantically booking a flight home and then had to do everything possible to get to the airport in a timely manner.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I am happy to say I found a few lovely new blogs on the A-Z Challenge.  Bloggers that TRULY HOPPED.  That developed a relationship with me, took the time to leave genuine comments from time to time and  CONTINUE TO POP IN HERE.  JOYCE,From This Side of the Pond, IS ONE OF THOSE LOVELY BLOGGERS.  Glad to have found her blog. Funny too, I kept seeing this hop and once I got to know her  I just had to give it a whirl.  Thrilled I did.  I highly recommend you pop on over. Check out Joyce FROM THIS SIDE OF THE POND you will not regret it.

Smothering Love

by lucy on May 14, 2013

247604_4217211447673_1349822190_nPhysical Activity crucial to living.

Building up to a 20 to 30 minute walk every day.

Best to walk outside as much as possible.

LEAVE THE HOUSE on bad days and go somewhere.

972028_4217211727680_1124623726_nMy mom got outside for 17 minutes.

Walking 10 minutes.

Taking a break at the 5 minute mark.

Building very slowly to 30 minutes.

Unfortunately, I have to leave town but will be back in June to keep it going.

I know she is not comfortable walking alone.

Double unfortunately, my father is in serious denial. He should be home helping her build her strength. Heck, he should be walking too.

Actually, the doctor was shocked when he heard my father was not walking and working way too many hours.

The doctor had NO IDEA that my father was working 40 hours steadily and in the summer over 40 hours.

He clearly stated my father should not work longer than 4 hours a stretch.   (he never works only 4 hours)

He should NEVER work a 10 hour day, the doctor said that straight out, my father will work many of those days in the summer.

Lastly,if my father only worked 20-24 hours a week, which the doctor said is all he should work he could walk with my mother.

Eventually, my father’s schedule will cause other issues and my parents’ will lose what they are so desperately clinging to, their independence.

Christmas Eve 2011 008

I am sure you can tell I am a ‘worry wart’ and I know I need to let them go but have you ever ‘been there done that’?  How did you do? What are your suggestions for me to sit back and let it all unfold?

Bridge of Light

“Bridge Of Light”
Just when you think

Hope is lost,
And giving up
Is all you got,
And blue turns black,
Your confidence is cracked,
There seems no turning back from here

Sometimes there isn’t an obvious explanation
Why the holiest hearts can feel the strongest palpitations

That’s when you can build a bridge of light,
That’s what turns the wrong so right
That’s when you can’t give up the fight

That’s when love turns night time into day,
That’s when loneliness goes away,
That’s why you gotta be strong tonight,
Only love can build us a bridge of light

When your feet are made of stone
And you’re convinced that you’re all alone
Look at the stars instead of the dark
You’ll find your heart shines like the sun

Let’s not let our anger get us lost
And the need to be right comes with way too high a cost

That’s when love can build a bridge of light
That’s what turns the wrong so right
That’s when you know it’s worth the fight

That’s when love turns night time into day
That’s when loneliness goes away,
That’s why you gotta be strong tonight
‘Cause only love can build us a bridge of light

Deep breath, take it on the chin
But don’t forget to let the love back in

That’s when love can build a bridge of light
That’s what turns the wrong so right
That’s when you can’t give up the fight

And that’s when love turns night time into day,
That’s when loneliness goes away
That’s why you gotta be strong tonight
‘Cause only love can build us a bridge of light

Only love can build us a bridge of light…

Of light….
Of light…

I think each and everyone of us gets something different out of a song. All depending on our life and circumstance a song can ‘speak’ to us in a distinctive way. One thing, I got from “Bridge of Light” is that sometimes we get caught up in OUR JUSTIFIED ANGER and we might want to remember LOVE gets us further in life than anger, revenge, and hate.
Did any part of the Lyrics ‘speak’ speak to you?

Hyphenation

May 9, 2013

Photo Credit Do all the Hyphens we use continue polarizing? Or do you feel they build tolerance?  I am not sure, sometimes, personally,it makes me wonder? Just some ‘food for thought’, what do you think? We talk about labels, and use hyphenation all the time.  Therefore, how do we distinguish? You know, how do we decide between the [...]

Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds

May 6, 2013

Raise your hand if you think Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is about the drug LSD?  I do.  Does it really matter? Does it ruin it for you? I like the song, the imagery, the music itself. It was controversial in its day.  John Lennon claimed the song was inspired by his son’s, [...]
