The Tyra Banks Show, um, yeah

by lucy on May 5, 2010

Yes, I was on the Tyra Banks Show on Monday, May 3rd, Controversial Parenting!!! I was the lady wearing  a puke green top, silver skirt, and white tights.    In addition,  I was the lady trying to hide.  I squirmed a lot in my seat because the women were yelling at each other a lot.  They were jumping off their chairs.  They were pointing their fingers at each other and getting in each others faces.  Tyra actually gives them a speech about not talking over each other and to stop the shouting.  They did not air Tyra’s speech.  You do See Tyra grab one woman’s hands to stop her from the finger pointing in your face yelling!   They also cut out almost all of the jumping off the chair scenes.  Matter of fact, the only one they left in was the mother who did it first and calmly, not yelling at another mother BUT when she jumped off her chair then all the other mothers started following suit because they wanted to  make sure they got on air!

Please understand that a lot of the  mothers (not all) wanted desperately to be on air.  The lady sitting next to TYRA in white.  That was her main goal.  She is hoping to be discovered for her beauty and opinions and then she thinks she will get that big break.  At one point she jumped off her chair and gave us ALL HER MEASUREMENTS, not just her boob size, yep if you didn’t see the show, let me tell you that this lady just announced her boob size on National Television for whatever reason and had they not edited it out all her measurments.

I was pleasantly surprised at the editing.  Everything was genuine. The Tyra Banks Show in my experience is AUTHENTIC, no editing games! They might have put somethings all together that was said in two separate statements like my ‘monologue’ but it was all said by me and for that segment.  No hanky panky editing.  They might have twisted somethings around but not for sinister purposes, I think for time!   So, like this happened first but they had it  second and it didn’t change the flow or outcome, it didn’t make something look bad or good.

The producers NEVER EVER asked me to say something other than what I told them, period.  They did ask me to be willing to speak up but NEVER did they suggest I yell or jump off  my chair.  Actually, the producers (there are several producers)  got irritated with the women.  Many of the women spoke out of turn.  What does this mean??  OK, let me explain.

When you go on the show you are asked to be there for your tidbit.  I was there for ‘snooping’ and ‘partying with kids’.  Those were the two segments I was suppose to participate in.  I was suppose to give my opinion and my personal story.  I will do a post explaining my opinion and stories because I can’t possibly lump this experience into one post, so I apologize you will have to get THE TYRA BANKS SHOW in two parts.  Now,  back to how you are suppose to behave on stage.

The producers explained that you would be cued by TRYRA when to speak and then you could argue politely with another mother if she disagreed with you on YOUR segment!!!  My producer said, “WE WANT POLITE DEBATE AND WE DO WANT IT TO BE A DEBATE”      The producer also said, “Please use your PERSONAL STORIES, MAKE IT AUTHENTIC, REAL, TALK ABOUT YOUR CHILDREN.”   I said, “No problem.”  Now, they did have me tell my stories to them a couple of times.  I think that was just to help with the nerves.  She never asked me to change anything in my stories or add to them.

Now, I was sitting in the ‘green’ room with a mother and she said, “I told the producer, you just tell me what you want me to say and I will say it.”  Me and this other mother just kind of looked at each other.  Then the lady said, “The producer said, oh no, your story is perfect just say what you told me. So, I guess they just love me.”    A few of the mothers insinuated they were there just to be on television and they brought their daughters because they wanted TYRA see how beautiful their daughters were and then they might, well, you know, get picked to MODEL.  I was like, “Oh, NO!”

Anyways, we get out on the stage, the show begins taping and all hell breaks loose.  Mothers started going off on each other.  Matter of fact they could not do the ‘party with your kids’ segment because they lost control in the first ‘naked’ segment.  What happened was all the mothers started talking, even moms not there for the ‘naked’ segment and they did it in the second segment with ‘sex in the house’.  After the second segment when TYRA gave them a speech, the producers also came out and said, “DO NOT SPEAK IF IT ISN’T YOUR SEGMENT”  It calmed down a bit after that but just a bit.  These women were dying to get on air.   What cracks me up is, I followed the rules and I got on air and they used my facial expressions for  the segments I was not suppose to talk during because sometimes you don’t need to talk to get your view across.

Here is my look after a mother states that she allows her teenage son to have sex in his room while she is home and she provides condoms!

It was a hoot!!  I was squirming.  I had never experienced such, well, such an experience.  Women screaming at each other, pointing fingers in each others faces, hopping off chairs and Poor TYRA she actually got flustered and had trouble keeping the peace.  I am telling you REALITY TELEVISION is creating monsters because  even though I do believe that these women felt passionately about the topic, I believe more that they were hoping to be the next Jill Zarin ,  Teresa Guidice , Tamra Barney, Kim Zolciak or Nene Leakes from the REAL HOUSEWIVES franchises of Bravotv!

Aw, man. That’s just sad. And your face says it all! I’m pretty sure I’d have the same expression. I can’t believe she lets her son do that! But what an awesome experience to be on the Tyra Banks show. Looking forward to reading more about it. :)

It really was an exciting experience and a chance to meet interesting people! The Tyra Banks crew was great!

Your expression is KILLING me! And, its The Same Expression I would have had. I think you are TOTALLY brave for going on the Tyra show. She kind of scares me in general!

It was funny because TYRA was scared of those women, she actually got flustered I felt bad for TYRA! Thanks!!

Omigod, I tweeted you to tell you, but I think it must not have gone through… those women were all insane. You were the only voice of reason up there. You outclassed those women 100%!

I also have the same stance on privacy as you do by the way. Great minds must think alike.

Oh, thank you so much, the second part I will get into the ‘opinions’, oh it was interesting, I have ‘dish’ on that and you are going to LOVE IT!!
Once again, thanks so much!!!! Great minds do think alike!!!

I believe I would have had that exact same look upon hearing that as well! I can’t believe how poorly behaved the women were. What a cool thing you got to do here. I just wish I had seen the show.

It was a cool thing, really cool! Oh, and interesting (lol)

I need to adopt that expression for my classroom conversations. Sometimes those interactions remind me of Tyra…or even Jerry Springer!

For a moment I thought I was on Jerry Springer but the producers quickly stopped it, they didn’t want it to go there (lol)!

Your look is simply priceless. Is there video available on the Tyra site? I’d love to see you in action. Figures some of the moms did it just to get their kids modeling gigs – talk about exploiting your kids. BLEH.

Yeah, some (not all) of the moms definitely had agendas! My family has been having fun with the facial expressions, saying, “Gee we have seen those looks before”

Oh I missed the show! Do you know when it will be aired again so I can see it? :) Glad you stayed true to yourself. The producers probably knew which ones wanted to just be on to be on tv… ugh

I will see if it is airing again, I had a nice little ‘spot’!!!
