And so it BEGINS!!  I am Catholic and I enter into that time of year that Catholics are not FOND of, LENT!! LOL Now, over the years many things have been debated, when does it start?  Most people agree, ASH WEDNESDAY.  That Happens to be today (Wednesday, February 22nd).  The date changes but it is always on a Wednesday, don’t ask me why? Oh, trust me there is a reason!    THE ENDING of Lent is even more complicated BUT HERE ARE some TOTAL agreements.  IT IS NOT PALM SUNDAY!!!!  Now, that would make sense because that is 40 DAYS.  That rings a bell, right?  40 days and 40 nights and we say we are emulating Jesus but no, we wouldn’t want it to make sense.  Anyway, according to the Church they choose make us suffer a little longer and you know, why not, we are not in a dessert, so c’mon, it shouldn’t be all that hard to take on a few more days!  The TWO different endings that are debated are HOLY THURSDAY, which would be 44 days and HOLY SATURDAY!! The more agreed upon, 46 days!!  I have always just waited until EASTER.  I am one of those people that COVERS HER BASES LOL.

Oh, and another thing, my little students have tried to negotiate.  “Hey, teach, we hear you get SUNDAY’S off, it is a day of REST”   My answer, “Nice Try, but the idea of Lent is emulating Jesus and him suffering AND dealing with the devil in the desert, and guess what? Yeah,  He didn’t get to rest on SUNDAY, dah?”   Oh, they would try to argue a little more but I would eventually convince them to either ‘go big’ or don’t bother, it really was up to them.

So, ready for LENT? Giving anything up?

Good question. There is probably something I could give up. What are you giving up?

Gorgeous photos! Was that from the day you were killing time?

I’m not Catholic so I don’t have to give anything up. ;)

Those are absolutely stunning shots, Lucy! I’ve always wondered about the whole Lent thing and the number of days. :)

My husband is Catholic. He didn’t wear the ashes yesterday because he “forgot” to go to church. Apparently it was my job to remind him. But I’m like “um, I’m not Catholic…”

And for us, Lent ends whenever my husband decides he’s going to die from caffeine deprivation… which probably won’t take forty days.
