This song always made me want to live in a small town. AND, It definitely made me wish I had GROWN UP in one.
Do you live in a small town? Were you born and raised there? Do you love the small town like John Mellencamp?

Yes, I grew up in a very small town, but I’m not a small town fan! LOL
I’ve lived the past thirty years in a small town and pretty much grew up that way and on the whole I love it but some days I truly hate it and wish I lived where exciting things happen. then of course i here something awful on the news and go back to being very thankful for my small town.
I grew up in a small southern town- with narrow minded asses who loved nothing better than judging others. Of course, that could have been that era–and prejudice? Oh yes they were! I hated it! But Mellencamp? LOVE HIM! Always have!
Yup, I grew up in a small town and live today in an even smaller town! Great song!
I love that song! I did grow up in a small town, and I loved it!
Well, I guess it depends how you look at it. All though I lived in Chicago I was raised in an area called Bridgeport (Mayor Daley’s neighborhood), but then we moved to a neighborhood super close to Midway Airport and by no means was that a small town. My dad took us to a suburb called St. Charles at a park called Pottawatomie Park, and he always said when he retires he wanted to move out there. Well, he never made it he retired Jan 8th, 1980, but died Jan. 30, 1980 so I did it for him I moved near St. Charles just a few miles away. I love it here & it’s right by Fox River. Great choice. I love John Mellencamp! My favorite is Little Pink Houses. Have a great week and don’t forget to enter our celebration give-aways.
My hubby remembers this song, but I don’t. Neat song. Thanks for sharing.
I love singing the song and have loved it for years, but from everything I’ve garnered from small town bred and living, I’d never want to be in one or grow up in one.
Thanks for rocking with us today Lucy!
Have a great week!
Born and raised in a small town (less than 3000 people) – left after high school, moving to the big city. Moved back after 18 years, so that our children could be closer to family…can’t wait for an empty house to get back to the big city!!! I love our home – but you can make a home anywhere. I can’t STAND people who have nothing better to do than GOSSIP – it is so sick and immature. I now realize why I couldn’t wait to leave years ago. My kids love it…I guess I am thankful that many have their watchful eye on my kids…which means they can’t do too much without us hearing (and of course it will be exaggerated on the truth of what really happened). I believe that life is what you make of it…and I will survive the next six years…but I have hidden talley marks counting down the days….
Great song! It doesn’t really make me want to live in a small town, but movies and TV shows that are set in small towns often do. There’s just something about watching someone walk through town and greet people by name that makes me smile inside.
I haven’t stayed in a small town as I’ve grown up in a big metropolitican city of Singapore and am still staying there.
Oh yeah, I grew up in a small town and live in one now. However, I am getting ready to go live in a big city again.
Small towns are great in some ways but not in others.
Great song.

I’ve read a lot of books and seem some movies that deal with small town and I would have LOVED to grow up in one, however at the same time I really don’t. LOL
There’s the comrade, but then there’s the no privacy thing o.O
Great musical choice! Hope you have a musical weekend
I was born in a small town, and I live in an even smaller town now. And this reminds me, I must put some John Mellencamp on my iPod. stat!
My “town” was so small you couldn’t call it an actual town. To compensate I married someone from one of the world’s biggest towns.
I enjoy all of them ♥
Yep, I was born & raised in rural WV where everyone knows everybody! There is no escaping the town gossip, either. lol Small towns are okay, if you can get to big city to do things. That’s one thing growing up in McDowell County (Home of the Rocket Boys “October Sky” movie)we totally lacked in. You had to drive at least 2-hours, if you wanted to shop at a mall or eat at a nice restaurant. I could not move back to my home town after living in Knoxville for over three decades.

Great song! I haven’t heard in in awhile.
I’m from a small town and I still live there. It’s got its perks but it gets on my nerves sometimes too.
City/suburb, Texas/DC girl here. My Daddy’s family, though, originated in a small, West Texas burg and my Mom hails from small-town Indiana, just like Mellencamp. BTW: Did you know he’s dating Meg Ryan? Or at least that’s what People says. And yes, I adore Johnny and his music, too!
