We just drove from Ohio to Arizona in two days! It was a LONG two days. We do it in my small car and we take our one dog. Now, that being said, we do it twice a year,so we are used to the drive. Typically we do the drive Early September and then Late May but we had to go a little later in September this year. Now,driving at these times of the year we get pretty good driving conditions. The weather is perfect. It makes for a nice drive.
My husband does all the driving. ALL OF IT!!! I get to do all the sight seeing. I have often fantasized about being one of those people that dare to be adventurous. I dare to dream!!! You know, the people that read the road signs about neat little places to see? Go off the beaten trail for a moment, for a bit, just to stretch. Yeah, some are a dud but what the heck, they stretch their legs, breath a little and take a chance. You know, they are being adventurous!! Not a us. Heck, My husband barely let’s us drink for fear too much fluid intake will slow us down! Seriously! We drive 12 hours a day and the man complains because we do 3 stops. If he had it his way we would stop 2 times, lunch and dinner. He always feeds his belly but while driving feeding is grabbing a sandwich and chips at the gas fueling stop!! He is a maniac.
I said, “Hey, look let us check out the world’s biggest Wind chimes in Casey, Illinois?“ He looked at me as if his wife went missing. Like, who was this creature sitting next to him. How dare I ask such a stupid ass question? ZOOM we when right by that exit. I said, “Can’t we ever just slow down and check something out.” He looked at me and said, “No, who needs to see big ass Wind chimes?” I just shook my head. So, as we whizzed across the United States I saw a lot of cows, horses, farms and red barns. I am wondering why barns are red? Anyone farm and can tell me the history of painting the barn Red? See, these are the things that pop in your head when your maniac husband zooms across the Country. I unfortunatley saw a lot of trash. Oh, I don’t mean, cans and bottles. No, sadly it is heartbreaking to see what some people live in. It is barely a roof over their heads but I am happy to report they have DirectTV and why shouldn’t they, I mean everyone needs a little joy in life and by golly if the television gives it to them, then so be it!! I mean that,it is heartbreaking. It is sad to see where our big junk goes. You know rusted out cars, buses, trucks and so on. They sit in yards and far away lands that you see when driving across the Country but away from your minds daily. But, my favorite yard was the Porta-Potty yard. As my husband was zooming down I -40 West, I said, “Oh, my gosh, I know you didn’t see that house but it obviously distributes, fixes and collects old Porta-Potties. Their yard was filled with them. Some were standing, others laying, some broken apart. It was mess. Could you imagine living next to that home.” My husband always finding the proper words. “Well, think about it, you never have to wait to take a shit!” I just shook my head and said, “But, they had neighbors?” Again, my husband and his words, “yeah, living downwind from them has to suck.”
Those are my great adventures going across the United States! No stopping at fun car museums, wind chimes, flea markets, antique shops,or, even the American Quarter Horse Museum in Amarillo, Texas. Heck, even eating dinner at the Big Texan, in Amarillo looks like fun and right on the interstate. Oh, and Not to mention the Casinos. Those look interesting. You should see the trucks in those parking lots. The truckers like to take a break LOL. There is something for everyone!! But nothing entices my husband. We are not venturing off the path or stopping longer than need be!! No way, Absolutely not. We go from Point A to Point B and pray you don’t dehydrate because with only 3 stops in 12 hours, well, you watch the fluid intake, trust me!
So, what type of traveler are you? Do you take your time and savor the moments or zoom, zoom, zoom?!?!?!
