My Birthday Cake! It was delicious. Chocolate!! TOP to BOTTOM. SINFULLY CHOCOLATE!!
Now, you have no idea what I went through to get that little shot!
I am not all that handy with my new phone yet.
I am not all that great with Instagram either.
AND, yes, both gadgets are pretty easy but well, what can I say, I am 47 and things take time to get through my brain!!
Alright, that is a pitiful excuse but I am going with it anyway.
So, I was practicing and fooling with my new phone AND my husband was helping and we were intensely figuring things out and our first shot was of my BIRTHDAY dinner!
Fish and Chips! Oh, it was delicious. The batter was light and the fish was tender, juicy. The fries were hot, crispy and thin. My dinner was fattening and over the top. I loved it.
Now, back to photo taking. My husband was helping with settings and telling me not to move, I kept shaking the phone and the photo would come out blurry. We had bad lighting(for photos) but perfect for eating and I had no idea my settings offered a night setting which lightened the photo(for the cake). We were having fun.
Unfortunately, two women across from us blatantly stared and listened to our entire conversation. Then, they shook their heads at us in total disgust. Not sure why? We were at our table. Talking low, taking photos of our food. Not sure how our quiet conversation or photo taking disturbed them? Better, why did it disgust them? My phone never rang, flashed nor was I talking on the phone!
My husband said, “Wow,Lucy, you love to eavesdrop too but I have never seen that, you never blatantly involve yourself in a stranger’s conversation. Those two women could have cared less that we knew they were listening. Now that is unbelievable. I think I have seen it all.”
I answered, “Honey, they wanted us to know they thought it was silly of us to be snapping photos of food. I don’t care what they think.”
Which is so true. I have no idea why they felt they needed us to know we cared. I almost snapped their photos but it was my birthday and I was in no mood to start with two older women. I was having a grand time. AND, I wasn’t bothering anyone!! Not sure, why they needed to watch us so intently.
I am the first to admit to eavesdropping but I do try to be discreet. It was beyond weird,a little uncomfortable and definitely an age gap. Which made me feel young!!! Anyone, under 40 wouldn’t have thought twice of what I was doing but see, they were way over 40 and they found what I was doing to be ridiculous, so it kind of made be feel hip!!!
AND, you all know the truth! Ha! Ha! Me, Hip, I am still laughing, Ha!Ha!
So, how do you guys all snap your photos? Do you just go for it? Do you get funny looks? Do you try to be discreet? Tell me your photo snapping techniques? I need tips!!

YUM i want a bite oh and Happy Birthday
Ha, I just go for it when I’m taking pictures. For the most part anyway. When I did maternity photos for my sister-in-law, I was getting down and dirty in the awkward positions and whatnot, but when I’m just taking scenery shots or whatever I just point and click.
Cake looks delicious!!
That birthday cake looks delicious even if it’s blurry. And I’m loving the Martini in the background of the Fish & Chips!
Also, I don’t understand why people get all bothered by other people taking photos in restaurants. And I love to listen in too – but I do NOT stare. EVER. That’s just rude.
I just snap the photo and hope for the best. I don’t even understand settings like Macro or anything like that.
You ARE hip!! That food and dessert look amazing! I would sink my teeth into them. For very low light, like in candlelit restaurants, you won’t have much success with your phone, sorry! Unless there’s an app, I hear “Big Lens” can let you change settings, that can help. Or if your phone can, try a long exposure. It means that camera is taking a second to take a photo, instead of a fraction of a second. You gotta hold real still though!
