Getting Out of Neutral!

by lucy on November 27, 2012

I have often mentioned my dislike for cooking and BAKING!!  I rather clean than do those two things in heartbeat but I always cooked for my family.  Simple meals, yes and on occasion I tried something new BUT I cooked.  I was AND I am a firm believer in the FAMILY meal.  BUT,I will repeat you do not have to beat yourself up and create fancy schmancy meals every.single.night!

Now, here is something you are going to think is ODD. Although for those of you who have become my friends and who have read me long enough, well, I am sure you are getting use to my ODD ways. Right?

Well,  With my lackluster love for the kitchen you might find it surprising that I buy Aprons!! Yep, I just love that little piece of clothing. Therefore, when Katherine, of Katherine’s Corner offered to do an Apron Swap I was ALL IN!!

AND, looky!!Score!!

Iveth, from Creative Atelier was my swap partner. Iveth is an artist and she creates one of a kind jewelry.  Incredibly beautiful!! Iveth, took the extra step of gathering information about me and sent me the cutest apron.  I described colors and food I liked and BINGO!! Actually, my husband opened the apron first and said, “Lucy, it is so you!” AND, it is!!

Now I use to not wear my Aprons all that much.  Mostly on Holidays!! But, something has happened.  With more time on my hands AND bloggers insisting recipes are easy or they create easy recipes I have been COOKING and BAKING more.  SCARY, I know!!

My husband just loves to call me “Betty” now.  You know, like ‘Betty Crocker’ before I know it I will have a new nickname.  He is just the smartass!!

Therefore, I am seriously using my Aprons now.  They aren’t just to look cute, they actually serve a purpose!  Here I am making  Quick Banana Cake.  This turned out delicious and Gloria from New End Studio inspired this homemade 7 step cake!! It goes so well with my morning coffee.  It is nice, light cake!!

Here I am making my very first Pumpkin Pie!! Katherine from Katherine’s Corner did a post on baking pie and I thought, I can do this!! I forgot to take a photo of my homemade Pumpkin pie and it is gone!!!

I have many of my blogging friends recipes bookmarked and ready to go!! A Nut in a NutShell has a delicious Cherries in a Cloud Cupcake recipe that I made and shared with my neighbors!!

I am happy to say my Bloggy Buddies inspire me!! They get me thinking, trying new things, from baking to reading new books & authors, to little adventures!! Momma Mia,Mea Culpa made realize I don’t want to be stuck in Neutral!! Yes, a simple photo post made me think!! Yes, that is what I like about bloggers.  They say a lot in their blogs!! They move you, inspire and touch you in ways they probably have no idea they are reaching their reader!!

Now, this doesn’t mean that cooking and baking sometimes doesn’t drive me to do this still!! But, hey, I am n longer in neutral!!

How has blogging affected you?  Do you have a blog?  Or do you just read blogs?

I have several aprons as well. I am not into cooking either. I am into eating and grateful for hubby. He does not bake and I don’t mind although I like simple recipes as well. I love your personalized apron. Keep up the good work!

Cute apron! Whatever gets you more excited about cooking/baking right? I hardly use my apron. I just wear crappy clothes when cooking ;) . Good job! Your baking looked yummy! Reading blogs has challenged me to re-evaluate my clothing choices — look at fit, find classic pieces, but also to have fun with clothes!

Awwwwwwwwwwwww! Lucy!! Good for you!!

I’d much rather clean than cook or bake any time, any day, but you’re AWESOME for giving it a go! And I am totally calling you Betty too!

I guess it’s true that blogging really does sometimes push us to try things we may not have! Yay!

Super cute apron. My daughter loves to bake so we bake far more than I really care to as its a huge mess. And it’s a disaster trying to keep her hands out of the sugar, butter, flour, etc. ahh the stuff of memories! I do not cook at all and I don’t feel badly about it either!
