We get so caught up in the High Profile figures.  The Actors. The Athletes and The Politicians.  All people who, as the saying goes, “Puts their pants on one leg at a time.”  It seems to me if any of those High Profile figures steps over ‘the line’ and everyone defines ‘the line’ somewhat differently but we do create ‘lines’ well then all the complaining begins. You hear, “They are in the limelight and they owe it to the public and the children to be role models and blah, blah, blah.”  Personally, I don’t believe it.  I think we need to choose our role models and discuss it with our children.  Parents our the first role model and teacher.  Therefore, they should discuss instances with their children.  If they find a High Profile Figure to be worthy of being a role model then fine, discuss why?  If you think someone is not such a great person to look up to then have that discussion too but mostly it is about looking for the correct values in any human being and typically we all have a different value system.  It is unfair to impose your standards on an Actor? An Athlete? Or even a Politician? We expect them to follow the law of the land but beyond that well, value systems are fluid and different for each of us,correct?

Anyway I think we need to open our eyes to all our fellow human beings and we might be surprised what we find! Sometimes your role model should and needs to be your neighbor, a teacher, an aunt,grandparent and so on.  Many of us would be happily surprised if we talked or watched the amazing people around us.

I received this email and checked it’s validity with Snopes.Com.  This lady just lived her life and did what she thought was right at the time. In my mind a role model! I hope you agree!!

Now,I am sharing the email as it was written.  Please note, I have nothing against Vice President Al Gore or President Barrack Obama receiving their Nobel prizes.  I admire the people on the Nobel Prize committees and respect their judgement.  I do think the lady written about in the email, Irena Sendler, sounds like a wonderful,courageous woman and she did what she did with no need for recognition but now that we know it doesn’t hurt to tell her story.  I hope you are inspired by her courage!

During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an ulterior motive.
Irena smuggled Jewish infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried. She also carried a burlap sack in the back of her truck, for larger kids.
Irena kept a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.
During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.
Ultimately, she was caught, however, and the Nazi’s broke both of her legs and arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she had smuggled out, in a glass jar that she buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and tried to reunite the family. Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.

In 2007 Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected. Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.
Later another politician, Barack Hussein Obama, won for his work as a community organizer for ACORN.

Oh, unfortunately I do not know who originally started the email chain.  Another interesting thing to note, it is true that there are countries trying to deny that the Holocaust ever happened, yep, trying to rewrite history.  It is important to always keep history alive, the good, the bad and the ugly.  The hope is to learn from it so as human beings we don’t make the same mistakes over and over again.  Not that it always works but it is worth a try.

I misunderstood ON DEMAND! I know, hard to believe! You would think I could figure it out but truly I am an idiot!!

Oh, and My HUSBAND DID TOO.

AND IT COST HIM, a $100.00

I should not be happy because technically it cost ME a $100.00 BUT I love it when he makes a MONEY ERROR!

The kids were in Sedona for a week.  We have DirectTV in Arizona and we wanted to watch a movie.  In Ohio we just buy the movie and THERE IT IS!  Please for the love of God I have no idea why it works that way?  I am suspecting because we have cable? Well, technically it is AT&T but even when we had Time Warner (which is cable) we did the same thing, bought movie and POOF, there. OK, I am rambling.  Anyway, My point, we didn’t have to wait for the movie to start at a certain time on a certain channel.  With our DirectTV package WE DO.  This did not bother me but do you have kids?  Well, they can be a little whiny when they are use to having it easy. So,the whining began.

My husband then began researching ON DEMAND.

For $100.00 they could “HOOK US UP”

WOOHOO!!

He had them (DirectTV techie guy come out) and set it up!

Kids left to go live their life, like they should!!

AND

I never used ON DEMAND!

Low and Behold My husband is HERE (in Sedona) So I thought maybe we would watch a movie or a show?

So, I began asking some questions.  It went something like this. “Hey, I don’t really get this On Demand, how does it work? See, when I go to the ON DEMAND channel and pick a show it wants me to record? What does that mean.”  The brilliant answer, “I don’t know”  My sweet reply, “Well, that is helpful?”  He shot right back at me, “I have never used it, what do you want from me?”

I began fooling around with the television and it wasn’t working and my husband was getting frustrated so he said, “Call DirectTV, they are very nice and they will help you.”

I called.  And let me tell you this, I seriously hope to dear God they never release those recordings to the public.  We should NEVER call a company together.  SERIOUSLY!  We are one of THOSE couples.  The poor girl had to listen to us bicker and yes, she heard the phrase,”Do you want to take the phone and talk to her? Since you seem to know the questions to ask.”  At that point the young lady started laughing.  I just think she couldn’t handle us anymore.  Oh, and  if my husband were to be murdered, well, let’s just say DirectTV has some quotes on their recording that would NOT HELP my defense. I would be totally SCREWED!! That poor girl, I mean I felt sorry for her. But the man was driving me insane.  Telling me what to ask and talking over me while I WAS THE ONE DEALING WITH HIS NEW PURCHASE, whatever!

BUT with all that being said I have to admit the people at DirectTV were ever so helpful.

The woman explained how ON DEMAND worked and the fact that I must record because it is actually downloading but I could still watch it right away!  GREAT!!!

So, we bought CRAZY,STUPID, LOVE and it was pretty funny when the first scene is the wife asking for a divorce after 25 years of marriage (we are getting ready to celebrate our 25th anniversary) my husband didn’t find the scene as funny LOL. Especially after our last 15 or 20 minutes together!!

Anyway we were enjoying the movie for about 10 minutes and then the screen freezes and we get this message……

“Please be patient for a moment while your video buffers.”

I’m like, “GREAT!”

My husband says, “Oh, it must have to finish downloading, and then it will be okay.”

Movie gets going and all is good until…..

Yep, the video buffer message AGAIN!

Starts ups and it is rolling and AGAIN!

I say, “I think you are going to have to call”  Typical man, “No give it time to buffer it will be okay, it just has to download.”

Well it did this for the next NINE MINUTES and then I said ” YOU CALL or you are not going to have a television because soon a remote is going to be flying!”

He calls and gets some story about the fact that we are WIRELESS and our bandwidth, blah,blah,blah and the best thing to do is to download your ON DEMAND choices  THE NIGHT BEFORE you want to watch them because this will give them time to download and thus avoid the buffering issue!!!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Have you ever had Five Guys Burgers and Fries?  I will be honest I have yet to try them but I have heard quite a few people rave about the burgers.  Now,I do enjoy a Max & Erma’s burger from time to time! But, my family says MY BURGER gives all the BURGER places a run for their money. My husband calls mine the LUCY BURGER and he says, “Unfortunately we could never sell them because we would never turn a profit.”  I know, you are asking, “what is the problem with the Lucy Hamburger?”  Well, they are little too large! Come to think about it, Demi Moore should eat one, maybe two, hell probably three or four LOL.

Now, the Lucy Burger is all you need for dinner.  We typically just have the hamburger and strawberries or a salad but not both sides and never fries, it just isn’t possible.  Sometimes, we even SKIP a side.  I have offered to trim them down but they love the HUGE BURGER!

The Lucy Burger makes for a simple dinner.  I mix the burger.  My husband grills them  and then we have one side.  Sometimes, ok, most of the time  we use paper plates LOL  Talk about a SUPER EASY MEAL!!

Here is the recipe!

• This Feeds 4 adults!
• 2lbs of Ground Chuck
• 2 eggs
• 1/4 cup of Vitamin D whole milk
• 1 1/4 cup of Italian Seasoning Bread Crumbs
• 3/4 cup of Dried Parsley Flakes
• These last three ingredients do to your taste and always go lighter and then add accordingly.  They are strong and can ruin a meal fast!
• 3 Teaspoons of Garlic Salt
• 2 Teaspoons of Salt
• 1 Teaspoon of Pepper

Step 1. You put the Ground Chuck in a mixing bowl.

Step2. Add Bread Crumbs

Step3. Crack Eggs over ground chuck and bread crumbs

Step4. Pour Milk over ground chuck,bread crumbs and eggs.

Step5. Add Dried Parsley Flakes, Garlic Salt,Salt and Pepper

Step 6. With your hands mix all the ingredients into the ground chuck.

Step7.  Create 4 hamburger patties

My Family doesn’t care for a lot of extras but you can add whatever you like.  We do add cheese! You might like tomatoes,lettuce,onions,bacon,mushrooms…… You get my drift!!

Anyway, a simple hamburger!

Sometimes I wish I could stand up AND scream “So what do you want?”

Many Americans Baffle me?

I don’t like to discuss politics.  I like to study it.  I like to read all the different sides.  I love to hear the passionate people BUT at some point even I get frustrated.  I consider myself a Conservative Moderate BUT even that is hard for me to say at times.  Why?  Well, at times I see or dare I say it, I even agree with a LIBERAL.  I know, I know, some of you are shaking your head in disgust, oh well!  BUT  I would wage a bet that a Moderate Liberal has felt the same at times.  Typically, it is your diehards, those people on the extreme end of the spectrum that won’t budge AND typically those are the people you DON’T want in office BECAUSE they won’t get anything accomplished.  Why? Because they won’t compromise and you need people who will compromise and who work well with others and diehards don’t.  NOPE.  Now, you need your diehards!  Oh, they have a purpose but they just should not be in office or not at the very top LOL.  See, diehards are good for rallying the troops!!

“So what do you want?”

See, when all the debating and arguing gets into high gear it gets UGLY.  I think, “Don’t we just want a better place to live?”  Don’t we realize in the end we have to compromise to get there?”  Oh, and my head SPINS with all the SPINNING!

Right now you have many of the conservatives or Republicans whatever you want to label people claiming all our problems are President Obama’s fault.  You have the liberals or Democrats claiming, “no, Oh no it ain’t so he inherited all of the mess from George W. Bush and he hasn’t had enough time to fix Bush’s mess.”    Then, statistics start flying between the two sides!  Oh, goodness the statistic throwing!!  One side claims unemployment is rising or the other side claims it is actually starting to go down compared to when it started  under Bush and people are not examining the data correctly.  Then, the other side will say, no look at Food Stamps and then the other side will say, well, no you can’t use food stamps because President Obama has finally included more which is the right thing to do and you shouldn’t hold that against him, worse Bush left so many people out and blah, blah.  Then when the fighting gets ugly they start to go way back in history and one side will argue that even when we were prospering under Reagan we now are paying for it and vice vesrsa with Clinton UGH!!!!  You know the saying, YOU CAN’T WIN!!  So, let me get this straight, when many Americans were doing pretty well under Reagan AND Clinton, well, things still SUCKED?  Of course, because we are NOT a PERFECT SOCIETY and we will NEVER BE a perfect society. Oh, and here is another thing, you can throw out all the statistics and say it started under Bush and blah, blah,blah and you might even be right BUT here is the problem.  AMERICANS ARE HURTING NOW and they want to see or HEAR SOLUTIONS.  Not how it happened or why it happened they just want it FIXED!!  Or tell them how they can HELP TO FIX IT!!

If you look back in history and I will even argue RIGHT NOW a lot of the problem is a President will fail when he loses his ability to LEAD and GOVERN.  And you know what is the TOP QUALITY to do this?  Not his IDEOLOGY, as much as Americans want to believe that and as much as they fall for it during elections, nope.  The Best leaders are the ones that have the ability to work out a COMPROMISE.  Now, don’t get me wrong,Clinton and Reagan both knew how to schmooze the public.  They COULD SPIN a great tale.  They could make it look like they were holding their own.  They both knew how to make a compromise END UP LOOKING LIKE IT WAS THEIR OWN IDEA but make no mistake those two Presidents knew the art of working the system and getting it done AND THEY KNEW that was how you kept America WORKING and you did that by COMPROMISING and working with BOTH SIDES.  You know the Kenny Rogers song,  ‘The Gambler’, “You gotta know when to hold ‘em and  know when to fold ‘em.”  Pretty sad but our best Presidents can be summed up in a Country song! That says it all!!

We focus so much on the personal that deep down we have no clue about their stand on our government.  The issues.  And folks, here is the deal them going to church or cheating on their spouse doesn’t affect us nearly as much as how they vote on issues and how well they work with others.  Start paying attention to THEIR WORK and not the tabloid issues!! We should talk to their staff, other politicians and lobbyists.  Do they WORK WELL WITH OTHERS??  You know, like a performance review?  Geez, that would have helped us with George W. Bush and Obama, hell even Carter.  These guys lack a leadership quality.  All those men are intelligent men.  But, there is a reason they have trouble at the top.

They lack The Gambler Spirit!

A Perfect Way to Focus On The Good In Your Life!

Yesterday I had errands to run.  I had to grab some prescriptions from the CVS Pharmacy.  It was going to take an Hour and Twenty minutes to fill the prescriptions. YIKES!!  And, honestly, when I say errands, well, that was it, PLUS unloading some recycling.  That was going to take about 10 minutes, tops! Now, typically most of you would just go home and wait, right? Well, the CVS Pharmacy is about 20 minutes away.  Get my dilemma? Usually, I do some shopping at the Walmart across the street but honestly I didn’t need anything and I knew if I went into the Walmart or any of the other local stores I would spend money unnecessarily.  I was using my noggin for once.  I even brought my book but the other problem, I still don’t know the area all that well  and so I wasn’t sure where to go to read.

It just cracks me up that you can get Liquor while grabbing your drugs. I just get a kick out of this!

I dropped off the recycling and I called my husband.  I don’t like to drive and talk on the phone and I am glad I have a Bluetooth so I can keep both hands on the wheel but I still get distracted.  I admit it.  I am one of those drivers that need to focus while driving and here is why.

Yesterday while chatting I could have sworn I turned left at a certain intersection.  NOPE!  I obviously went straight but I had no clue and I needed to remember that later.  Anyway, it wasn’t all that bad because I ended up here!

The Tuzigoot Monument

Yep, I landed at The Tuzigoot National Monument!

Of course, the History buff that I am, well, I had a blast!!

It was beyond cool!!

Here is a little bit of what I learned!

Crowning a desert hilltop is an ancient pueblo. From a roof top a child scans the desert landscape for the arrival of traders, who are due any day now. What riches will they bring? What stories will they tell? Will all of them return? From the top of the Tuzigoot Pueblo it is easy to imagine such an important moment. Tuzigoot is an ancient village or pueblo built by a culture known as the Sinagua. The pueblo consisted of 110 rooms including second and third story structures. The first buildings were built around A.D. 1000. The Sinagua were agriculturalists with trade connections that spanned hundreds of miles. The people left the area around 1400. The site is currently comprised of 42 acres.

While there I learned that the people that lived at the top of the ruins were the respected members of society.  It is funny, it seems that every society has always had a division of their people and the people at the ‘top’ of society are the ones that seem to get the best views, interesting,don’t you think?

Most of the living was outdoors.  Families lived in a 200 square foot area, think about that?  TWO HUNDRED SQUARE FOOT! Can you even imagine? They mostly used their area to eat and sleep in.  Makes sense, what else were they going to do?  LOL  If you had a dwelling on an upper level you used a ladder to enter your space. This society lived here for 400 years and archeologists,scientists and historians have been unable to figure out why they left.  There is no hint.  They have no idea if it was a drought for a few years, disease or war.  It truly baffles them.

I enjoyed my little visit to Tuzigoot National Monument AND it only cost $5.00.  I know I would have spent more money at Walmart or another store and would not have gained nearly as much joy from a material item as I did from learning and enjoying the outdoors.

Oh, and yes, I got a little lost heading back because I didn’t exactly know how I landed where I did!

Remember I thought I turned left somewhere?  Yeah, so I turned right somewhere, I just guessed but see, I didn’t need to turn right.  Oh, well, I figured it out, eventually!

My husband called to make sure I made it home.  Because let us not forget I was on the Bluetooth with him when I originally got distracted and he knows me AND he just had to check up on me.  I know, I should be flattered and feel loved, and I do! Oh, and this morning he told me he looked up my destination to see where I landed.  It is nice to know my husband in OHIO was prepared to guide me out of mess in ARIZONA but I figured it all out by myself LOL.

This weeks Theme is Broadway Musicals! Please don’t go running away. I think you might be surprised with my choice!

My husband and I were doing errands and I had my new camera.  I thought, “Hey, a perfect day just to try different things and learn.”  I figured I might try the recording feature.  We were heading to Cottonwood and the drive is beautiful.

I was recording away and nothing was happening.  I was beyond frustrated.  My husband kept saying, “You really need to read the instruction book that came with the camera.”  I said, “I know but I thought I would just have fun,play around and experiment.”  He said, “I get that  but the book would help and you would be less frustrated because you would understand some of the knobs and stuff.” In my head I am thinking, “Blah, blah, blah”

Of course, I ignored him.  Then I began grumbling that all I was seeing was BLACK but the recording light was on.  I couldn’t imagine what the problem was?  Could the camera be broken? My husband said, “I doubt it, the thing is brand new?”  Oh and he answered in a very frustrated tone!  We continued to bicker some more and we were getting further and further away from the beautiful Red Rocks, the part of the drive I really wanted to record.  I mean the mountains were still all around us but the Red Rocks were quickly fading behind us.  I was grumbling and still complaining about seeing only Black and the red light was on AND I just couldn’t understand what was going on? And then my husband’s favorite saying popped out, “Sounds like a USER problem”  Loaded with All his sarcastic tone and no helping statement to follow.

And then the light bulb went off and here is the result!

At the beginning of the Video you hear long sigh.  That is me!  I just had regained my composure from us laughing our asses off.  You then hear my husband ask, “Is that better?”  Doesn’t he sound so sweet?  And I answer ever so nicely, “Yeah”. Trust me it took some time to get to our calming voices. Because…..

Moments before he was having the time of his life at my expense.  See, The camera was working JUST FINE and DID RECORD BLACK because I had the LENSE CAP on.

Yep, a USER PROBLEM.

Oh, and I have serious issues holding the camera still too!!

C’mon tell me a story when you were the USER PROBLEM?

I love a Good Chuckle but that being said I typically don’t enjoy the slap stick comedy movies.  I am not  a huge fan of Jim Carey or Will Farrel just to name a few.  Don’t get me wrong I enjoy some of their movies but they have to have a decent plot.  For example, Jim Carey’s “Liar,Liar” that is probably my favorite movie of his.  Now, there is no explaining ME because I may not GO those slapstick comedies but I am the first to laugh at someone when they fall (once I know they are fine) and I love America’s Funniest Home Video’s! I will go on Youtube when I need a pick my up and look at funny videos!

Or sometimes I pop in a movie and giggle away.  Many evenings My husband and I  had Movie Date Night at home.  Especially, when our children were still home.  They were out and about but we liked to stay home and be accessible.  Sometimes we went to dinner and then came home and watched a movie or we just grabbed takeout and popped in a movie.  Therefore, we tended to see movies WAY after they were HOT!! Sometimes this was a good thing because we were able to wait and see movies that were given two thumbs up by most people!! Which translated into us seeing more GOOD movies compared to sitting through duds!  Although, I will never forget the night of us trying to sit through Mulholland Drive.  If anyone has seen that movie and can explain it, I beg of you to email me or leave it in the comments, we were  BAFFLED.  I thought my husband was going to kill me for picking that movie BUT I assured him that it was Hailed by all the critics and even the movie goers were claiming it was good.  Really,if you check it out it gets like 4 stars!  HELP US OUT if you get it!! Because we were totally lost!!

Now, a movie we saw for the first time as a Date Night in our living room was,  40 Year Old Virgin! It was a compromise movie.  My husband wanted to see it and he said, “I know it isn’t your type of movie but I hear it is pretty good,would you mind giving it a try?”  Plus he has perfect timing, I mean right after the dud of “Mullholland Drive” and  “40 Year Old Virgin” was a newer movie, it was like a ‘just released’ type of deal, something we didn’t do often, so I was, like ‘OK’ go for it!

The movie is SOOO wrong and YET I laughed SOOOO hard that night.  Once again, one of those things you cannot possibly explain about yourself.  Something you would normally never think would tickle your fancy and part of you knows shouldn’t be tickling your fancy and yet I couldn’t stop laughing.  I was laughing at some really inappropriate stuff!  Anyway, the Most important thing to note, well for me,  I was so glad I watched it with MY HUSBAND and AT HOME.  There is this scene (Let’s Get Some French Toast or Drunk Car Scene) that is WRONG and YET so funny.  Steve Carrell (he plays the 40 year old Virgin) gets in a car with a young lady (Leslie Mann) who has had too much to drink (I told you WRONG, so WRONG) and her driving is inappropriate but Steve is great and Leslie Mann (the actress) does a wonderful job playing it just right, ridiculously wrong but right.  You have to see the scene.  ANYWAY it is one of those scenes that I just could not stop laughing and I was laughing so hard I fell off the sofa, hit my head on the coffee table and WET MY PANTS.  Needless to say we had to stop the movie because then my husband was laughing uncontrollably, I had to change and then we were able to enjoy the rest of the movie.

A movie night we have never forgotten and not for the best of reasons, if you get my drift LOL
